HARTFORD, CT (JULY 26, 2021) - The CT Freedom Alliance (CTFA) issued strong criticism of Governor Lamont's appointment of Dr. Manisha Juthani as the next Commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Public Health. At a press conference marking the announcement today, Lamont hailed Juthani's experience as "a tremendous benefit to the people of Connecticut as we continue to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and strengthen our vaccination efforts," as reported by the CT Mirror.
CTFA Co-Founder and General Counsel Brian Festa pushed back strongly on the nomination. "This is a doctor who suggested in a press conference last December that the Governor's lockdown orders were not strict enough," Festa said. "Given that this state was locked down more severely than most of the country, and for a much longer duration, Dr. Juthani's position on lockdowns is deeply disturbing. What is even more disturbing is that as Public Health Commissioner, Dr. Juthani can be granted broad, sweeping powers during any future public health emergency, including the authority to quarantine and vaccinate Connecticut residents."
